Every year after Christmas I hit Holiday Lane and score some good deals on ornaments – yes it means picking through potentially life threatening broken glass, but for me, it is worth risking life and limb in order to get the kids some banging ornaments for the next year.
But a long with getting them each a special ornament, I like to have them make one too. This year we were perusing the
hobby store and I found unfinished wooden airplane ornaments. I’m sure the intent is to buy special hobby paint and make a stunning ornament. But I saw different potential there.
So, I picked up 2 of these ornaments for $1.50 each. When we got them home I got out the water colors and let the kids have a blast painting them whatever way they wanted. The big one wanted some direction to make his look like a stellar plane, but the little one needed no help at all. On the back of the tail I wrote their first initial as per the hubs suggestion and the year on the bottom. And now I have 2 beautiful, colorful new Christmas ornaments for my tree. And some day when the kiddos are decorating their own trees they can pull them out and say, “wow, I made this when I was just a little kid”.
