Public Potties – Yuck! Maybe not….

by Jaded on August 27, 2010

Now that I have a potty trained child and entertaining the idea of potty training my second child, I spend a lot of time in the bathroom. I try to avoid public potties, but when the nearly 4 year old has to go, he has to go.

I have seen many public bathrooms that would make you cringe. On a recent outing to Chuck E. Cheese the 4 year old had to go potty. The hubs took him. Upon his return, he recounted the horror story. No toilet paper, paper towels, or soap. Being a place where children are encouraged to be, to play, to eat. I would expect  the bathroom would be a little more accommodating to keep bacteria at bay.

This seems to be the standard of most establishments. It is rare to find a public place that cares about their restrooms. And once again, Wegmans shines like a beacon in the night.

Wegmans truly cares about every aspect of the shoppers experience. I mainly shop at Wegmans in Woodbridge NJ, but I have also shopped at the Bridgewater, NJ, Bethlehem, and Easton PA locations, and I have seen the same high standards at all of these locations.

The bathrooms are usually spotless, yes occasionally they are bit of a mess. But the higher-ups at Wegmans have even thought about that. In each stall they provide a dispenser of disinfectant mounted directly on the wall. You spritz a little on some toilet paper, and wipe the seat off.

They also have those paper toilet seat covers, and unlike most places, the dispensers are actually full!

I could sing the praises of the sinks for days. Well, not the sink itself, it is after all just a sink. It is what is around and under the sink that impress me. Under one of the sinks there is this metal contraption, upon closer inspection, it is a fold down step stool! Really? They thought of shorter customers and children! My son can actually reach the sink without me having to hold him up and try to wash his hands at the same time!

Next the soap. The soap dispensers are usually full, but if not, they actually set out products from the shelves to use. I have never been in the bathroom at Wegmans that was without some sort of soap supply. After having an almost enjoyable experience in the bathroom, I found they also have hand dryers and paper towels. Amazing! I hate using the hand dryers. Someone understands that!

From what the hubs tells me, the mens room is the same with all the amenities that a nice clean public restroom should have.

Wegmans, you have done it again, you have impressed me.
