Letting the kids “bake”! Pretzel Drops

by Jaded on December 5, 2011

I have started the cookie baking marathon, and since I am making them as gifts, the kids haven’t really been helping. the thought of their sniffely noses and hacking coughs all over the place, sounds, unappetizing at best. But they still want to have fun and help mommy out.

I made a quick trip to the store, picked up a bag of square pretzels, and then pondered the Hershey’s Kisses. Do you have any idea how many different kind of Hershey’s Kisses there are now? They have Hugs, Kisses, wrapped in Hugs, Peppermint, Caramel, Cherry, Mint, Cookies and Cream, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and on and on. I decided on Plain Chocolate.

Then, once we got home, I opened the bag of pretzels and had the kids put them on a cookie sheet. hey had a little party doing this! Eating and laughing, some fighting of course, but they got it done, and they had done it ALL themselves!

Meanwhile, I preheated the oven to 300 degrees and unwrapped the Kisses. I only had to yell at them once about putting the chocolates on the pretzels instead of stuffing them all in the mouths at a rapid fire pace! Once all the pretzels had a Kiss sitting on them, I threw ‘em in the oven for about 5 minutes just till they got a little melty. Then topped them with an M&M before they cooled too much.

This was a great “baking” project for the boys, but you could get fancy and make them for a holiday party, Baby Shower, or hmm, maybe the Superbowl!
